The Criterion® Online Writing Evaluation service has topics available for many different levels. To see a list of topics available at each level please click on the appropriate level in the menu to the right of the screen.
Some topics in the Library have sample essays for students, associated with each score point. If the option for a sample essay is available, this is noted below the prompt text.
University level topics are also available.
NAPLAN Note:
The Year 9 NAPLAN tests occur at the beginning of the year, so naturally the Criterion is best used during 8th Grade to prepare. Suggested Topics falling under the "Persuasive" category are particularly suitable for the Persuasive Writing component, and teachers can create their own topics.
The feedback and scoring is determined when an essay is set, so a topic from any grade can be scored at a different level.
